Overview
The Certificate in Periodontology is a comprehensive postgraduate programme designed to develop your understanding of periodontal disease, diagnosis, treatment planning, and contemporary periodontal therapies. Delivered through a blended learning format, the programme combines flexible, self-paced online study with four practical hands-on training days, enabling dentists to enhance both their knowledge and clinical skills while continuing to work in practice.
Structured across six online modules and complemented by 4 practical training days, the programme provides 119 hours of verifiable CPD and combines evidence-based teaching with real-world clinical application. Delegates can study at either Level 7 or Non-Level 7, gaining a strong foundation in periodontology and peri-implant disease management, alongside practical experience in modern periodontal techniques.
For dentists who wish to focus solely on the online learning component, the six-module programme is also available as the Certificate in Periodontal Science, providing the same comprehensive theoretical education and 95 hours of verifiable CPD, without the practical training days.
Clinical focus and outcomes
The programme provides a detailed understanding of the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of periodontal diseases, enabling clinicians to deliver evidence-based care with greater confidence. Beginning with the anatomy, biology, and classification of periodontal disease, delegates progress through the principles of non-surgical periodontal therapy, periodontal surgery, periodontal plastic surgery, peri-implant disease management, and occlusion.
By the end of the programme, clinicians will have developed the knowledge and clinical decision-making skills required to diagnose periodontal conditions accurately, formulate effective treatment plans, and manage patients through both active treatment and long-term maintenance. Particular emphasis is placed on contemporary periodontal protocols, patient-centred care, and achieving predictable treatment outcomes.
Structure and learning experience
Designed for busy clinicians, the programme offers complete flexibility, allowing you to progress through the online modules at your own pace. Learning is delivered through a blend of pre-recorded lectures, clinical demonstrations, live webinars, academic reading, and case-based discussions.
Each module includes assessments to reinforce learning, while monthly LIVE Study Clubs provide ongoing access to expert faculty, treatment planning discussions, clinical mentoring, and peer networking opportunities.
Following completion of the six online modules, delegates attend four practical hands-on training days, designed to consolidate and apply their learning in a clinical setting. These intensive sessions focus on the practical skills required for contemporary periodontal assessment and treatment, providing delegates with the confidence to translate theory into everyday clinical practice.
