Professor Paul Tipton is a world-renowned Prosthodontist with over 40 years of private practice experience. He is one of only a few appointed Professors of Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry in the UK and holds a Master’s degree from one of the nation’s top universities. As the founder of Tipton Training, Europe’s leading private dental training institution, he has been teaching postgraduate dentists for over 35 years in the UK and internationally, shaping generations of dental professionals.
Professor Tipton qualified from Sheffield University in 1978 and opened his own referral practice in Manchester in 1982. He continued to advance his expertise at Eastman Dental Hospital, London, where he completed an MSc in Conservative Dentistry in 1989. That same year, he began teaching on the University of Manchester’s MSc in Restorative Dentistry and continues to lecture on their MSc programme in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry. He also lectures at King’s College London (LonDEC).
In 1991, Professor Tipton founded Tipton Training, one of the UK’s first private postgraduate dental academies. To date, the academy has trained over 6,000 dentists, with numbers continuing to grow each year.
His contributions to dentistry have been widely recognised:
1992: Awarded an honorary Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and appointed to the British Dental Association’s Independent Practice Committee.
1999: Certified as a Specialist in Prosthodontics by the General Dental Council (GDC).
2014: Awarded the honorary title of Visiting Professor after leading the City of London Dental School’s new Mclintdent modules in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Professor Tipton is also a respected editorial board member and contributor for Private Dentistry Magazine, Restorative & Aesthetic Practice, and Implant Dentistry. He serves as a medical writer and part of the advisory board for Expert Beauty Magazine and Woman’s Magazine, and was a founding member and board director of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is currently President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry and a Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE).

2012: Ranked in the top 3 dentists in Aesthetic Dentistry’s 25 Poll.
2021: Recognised as one of the World’s Top 100 Doctors by the Global Summits Institute.
2022: Named among Dentistry’s Top 50 Dentists and awarded the Kimberley Finlayson Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to private dentistry and dental education.
