Overview
The Diploma in Restorative Dentistry (Level 7) is a flagship advanced programme designed for dentists who want to strengthen both clinical understanding and hands-on capability. Accredited by EduQual and the Royal College of Surgeons of England, it combines the Restorative and Operative courses into one structured qualification that helps delegates manage more complex cases with greater confidence. The course builds predictable, high-quality restorative outcomes, sharper decision-making in treatment planning, and a stronger foundation for long-term progression in modern dentistry.
Structure and learning experience
The programme is delivered through a flexible blended format that allows practising dentists to upskill while maintaining their clinical commitments. Delegates complete 35 modules across a mix of seminars, live demonstrations, practical training and interactive online teaching. Learning is supported by 21 face-to-face training days and 14 online modules, including webinars, demonstration videos and live Q&A Zoom sessions, creating an immersive experience that reinforces progress between teaching blocks. Each stage is structured to introduce techniques in depth, practise them on phantom heads and manikins under close supervision, and return to clinic ready to apply them immediately.
Clinical focus and outcomes
A central focus of the programme is developing predictable restorative results through a deeper understanding of core principles and technique selection. Delegates explore areas including occlusion, articulators, TMJ splints, endodontics, periodontics and treatment planning, alongside refining operative execution under the mentorship of Professor Tipton’s demonstrator team. Practical training includes anterior and posterior tooth preparations, bonded and ceramic crowns, porcelain inlays and onlays, direct composite restorations, gold preparations and bridge preparations. By the end of the programme, delegates gain both academic depth and practical control, with the confidence to diagnose, plan and deliver a wider range of restorative solutions for their patients.
Level 7 Diploma
To achieve the Level 7 qualification, participants must complete a series of assessments, including Direct Observation of Performance (DOPS), reflective written work, clinical portfolios, treatment planning assignments and multiple-choice examinations.
On successful completion of the programme and all required assessments, delegates are awarded a Level 7 Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, alongside the Level 7 Certificate in Restorative Dentistry and the Level 7 Certificate in Operative Dentistry, accredited by EduQual and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
