This focused, hands-on training course is designed to equip dental nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely and effectively apply fluoride varnish in clinical practice. Combining essential theory with practical experience, this session supports direct access delivery and aligns with current clinical guidelines.
Structure and learning experience
This course is built around active learning, with small group teaching and real-time feedback. You will observe best-practice techniques through live demonstrations before practising at clinical skills stations using typodonts and mannequins. There is a strong focus on isolation and moisture control, alongside scenario-based role play to build confidence in patient communication. You will also complete clinical judgement exercises and documentation practice, ensuring you can apply, assess, and accurately record treatment in line with clinical standards.
Clinical focus and outcomes
Throughout this interactive session, participants will develop a clear understanding of the role of fluoride varnish in caries prevention, as well as patient assessment, consent, and effective communication. The course also covers clinical application techniques and workflow, infection control and documentation standards, and how to identify contraindications while confidently managing a range of clinical scenarios.
