Overview
The Certificate in Operative Dentistry is a comprehensive one-year manikin-based programme designed to strengthen clinical confidence and precision through intensive practical training. Focused on real-world restorative application, the course supports dentists at any career stage who want to build safer, more predictable preparation and restoration skills. By the end of the programme, participants are equipped to translate refined techniques directly into everyday practice, improving consistency, efficiency and long-term patient outcomes.
Structure and learning experience
The programme combines 10 face-to-face training days with 10½ days of guided video procedures and an extensive online webinar library accessed through the Members Portal. Each in-person session is entirely practical, with participants working on phantom heads/manikins under close supervision from Professor Tipton’s mentoring team. The structure allows dentists to prepare online in advance, then reinforce learning through repeated hands-on execution, supported by personalised feedback in a calm, mentored environment designed for skill mastery rather than observation.
Clinical focus and outcomes
Training centres on advanced tooth preparation and restorative execution, covering bonded crowns, ceramic crowns, porcelain veneers, ceramic inlays/onlays, amalgams, gold preparations, bridge preparations and related operative techniques. The course emphasises both direct and indirect restorations while integrating modern digital workflows, improving hand-eye coordination and procedural control. Graduates leave confident managing more complex restorative cases, delivering predictable functional outcomes and higher long-term prosthetic success.

Certificate options
Level 7 Certificate
To achieve the Level 7 qualification, participants must complete a series of assessments, including Direct Observation of Performance (DOPS), reflective write-ups, clinical portfolios, treatment planning assignments and multiple-choice examinations.
On successful completion of the course and all required assessments, participants are awarded a Level 7 Certificate in Restorative Dentistry accredited by EduQual and The Royal College of Surgeons of England. RCSEng centre accreditation is recognised as a mark of excellence, and we are proud to be the first and only private training provider to hold this distinction.

Participants who choose not to pursue the Level 7 qualification may enrol on the non-Level 7 pathway.
This option does not require completion of the formal assessments. Instead, participants receive a Tipton Training Academy Certificate of Attendance accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This pathway does not confer a Level 7 qualification from EduQual.

This course has greatly increased my confidence, both clinically and professionally. Through clear instruction, hands-on learning, and constructive feedback, I gained a deeper understanding of the concepts and techniques involved.
